Essential tree maintenance works at Northstowe.
During the past few months, the tree stock at Northstowe has been audited for safety purposes.
As a result of the new audit, expert tree surgeons will this week begin the process of removing dead and hazardous trees from a number of the wooded areas across the Northstowe development site.
We will use the work as an opportunity to create new habitats by leaving both standing and fallen deadwood in place.
These new habitats will be used by invertebrates, including stag beetles and dozens of other species of creepy crawlies, which also make their homes at Northstowe and are a key part of the site’s rich biodiversity.
Work is expected to be complete by the end of April.
As part of the tree work, a number of conifers on the site of the former tomato farm will be felled fronting Dry Drayton Road in Oakington. Litter removal will also take place.
At times during the works, temporary traffic lights and lane closures will be in operation for safety reasons. Their duration will be as short as possible with the first use planned for Thursday 21 March.
