Proposals for the first neighbourhood on Homes England land at Northstowe have been awarded a prestigious Housing Design Award.

Since being chosen through a competition, Urban Splash have been working alongside the Homes England team, architects Proctor & Matthews and shedkm to refine the design ready for detailed Planning approvals and construction.

The scheme will bring 406 homes to Northstowe with 60% being affordable housing, including 60 homes for Older Persons.

The design for the new neighbourhood, called Inholm, builds on the features set out in the Northstowe Phase 2 Design Code and the surrounding fenland landscape. Inholm will also feature a linear park, an integrated public transport route, cycling routes and local shops at the heart of the community.

David Birkbeck of Design for Homes, who organises the awards, said “In 17 years of being involved in judging, I have never seen so much support among the judges for a scheme at Project status. 18 out of 20 made it their top choice.”

The scheme will be precision built using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), with homeowners given the chance to customize the layout and finishes in their future house with an online design tool. You can play with the tool here, but you’ll have to wait to make your masterpiece a reality as reservations for Inholm aren’t open just yet.

Mike Goulding Project Director at Homes England said, “Winning this award is the result of everyone involved in the scheme putting so much care, expertise and effort into making Inholm a fantastic place to live in the future.  It’s also great to see the focus that Homes England has on design quality, Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and sustainability paying off at Northstowe.”
