Healthy town: happy town
NHS England is providing continued funding for a ‘Healthy New Town’ programme over the next 2 years to look at how best to provide healthcare for Northstowe residents and new facilities for the town centre.
As part of the new programme, an action plan has been drawn up to ensure that Healthy New Town principals are applied to all aspects of Northstowe’s development.
Work has also been commissioned to look at older people’s accommodation and care needs, population growth and capacity planning for health and social care needs, as well as a Healthy Living and Youth and Play Strategy.
The strategy will consider how youth and play can be provided in the second Phase of Northstowe and the healthy living measures that can be implemented to encourage all future residents, whatever their age, to lead active, healthy lifestyles. Work on this will be lead by landscape architects Chris Blandford Associates.
A local community consultation took place during May and June 2017, which included a community workshop, and the final strategy document is currently being put together – so watch this space!
