We’re innovating our outdoor play areas to create engaging spaces where our young people can thrive – and we need your help!

Landscape architects Randall Thorp have been brought on-board by developer’s Gallagher to look at the design of the five play areas planned across Phase 1 of Northstowe.

As part of this process, the architects are inviting the local community to get actively involved and the local Youth Council has agreed to act as ‘Play Area Trustees’ to help guide and shape the final designs selected.

Dick Longdin of Randall Thorp explained how he’s keen to challenge the traditional concepts of play area design by looking at how children like to play and stressed the importance of his, ‘10 principles for great play spaces’, which include using unique elements of the local area, a close proximity to nature, and allowing young people of all abilities to play together.
