DONATION FROM LOCAL HOUSEBUILDERS HELPS NORTHSTOWE TO GROW THIS NATIONAL ALLOTMENTS WEEK
The housebuilders behind Northstowe are helping the new town to celebrate National Allotments Week (10-16th August), with a donation of benches for the community allotments, orchard and garden.
With a grant from the Northstowe Developers Community Fund, the Northstowe Horticultural Association (NHA) are installing two large picnic benches, two large seating benches and one child’s picnic bench for the residents to enjoy as they potter in the allotments and visit the garden.
Fitting perfectly the NHA’s long-term vision, the theme for this year’s National Allotments Week is ‘Growing Food for Health and Wellbeing’. Started by local residents in 2019, the group aims to develop a community space that promotes social inclusion, ecological sustainability, health, wellbeing and the enjoyment of nature and the outdoors.
Chair of the Northstowe Horticultural Association, David Evans said, “The allotments, community orchard and community garden are an important part of the Northstowe and directly contribute to the vision for the new town to be sustainable and one that promotes health and wellbeing.
“We would like to thank the Northstowe housebuilders for the grant, enabling us to purchase the new benches which we are sure will be enjoyed by many of our growing community and fellow green-fingered friends.”
On behalf of all the housebuilders at Northstowe, Charlotte Barber, Sales Manager at Linden Homes said, “Northstowe is a truly unique new town, built around the sustainability, health and wellbeing of its residents.
“We are thrilled that the grant from our Northstowe Developers Community Fund has helped the Northstowe Horticultural Association to create such a wonderful space for local people to enjoy, learn and stay active.”
Reviving the site of the former RAF Oakington, Northstowe is a new sustainable development located between Cambridge and Huntingdon. Northstowe includes a variety of housing types, including affordable homes, suiting a range of buyers and budgets.
